A rain soaked Soundwell park saw Bristol Athletic hit ten past a young Made for Ever development side with golden boy Raphael Waugh hitting five

Since that dreadful start to the jaguar’s return season, the club have had a real turnaround in fortunes with a five match winning run netting an impressive 30 goals.

Last weeks GFA Cup victory over Ashley Reserves saw a return to league action against a young Made For Ever Development squad in their first season in mens football. Striker Maleke Brown was missing with gaffer Kanwar Singh sidelined with injury. Emile Hunter returned to the side from a groin issue and Shah Bhakerd captained once again.

At this level of local football the pitches are often not condusive to passing football and Soundwell park was no different. The heavy rain didn’t help either but Athletic did manage to get things moving after a lacklustre start. Captain Shah Bhakerd broke the deadlock after just 8 minutes with the classiest of moves from the left hand side that saw him glide past four defenders and shoot from 15 yards with a sweetly guided shot high past the keeper into the right hand top corner of the net. One supporter said it was “possibly the best goal he’s seen for many years” and he wasn’t wrong.

Six minutes later Raphael Waugh scored the first of 5 after a string of misses earlier on. He constantly teased the defence with his power , trickery and pace. In all honesty he could have bagged 7 or eight on a difficult pitch.

Fit again Emile Hunter bagged 2 goals with Kieran Miller and Shah Bhakerd also getting braces. Keeper Mitch Harrison gained another clean sheet with Joel Dacosta & Ashley Bryan bossing central defence to shut out any real danger.

Once again Kelvin Williams controlled central midfield with a calm and assertive performance alongside captain Shah Bhakerd who’s creativity really was the engine of the performance today. Joe White looked a little shaky at left back this week with Oskar Malisev & Salva Marin both having impressive games despite Oskar missing out several times on getting a much sought after goal. Another steady performance from Romano Chambers saw Athletic gain their best result of the season so far and a very pleased boss Kanwar Singh looking forward to a well earned brandy.

So another great win for the BAFC supporters who braved the rain. It’s St Valliers away next week at Lockleaze Sports Centre if BAFC can get a victory it will take the Jaguars past them into 3rd place. Come on lads!
